So much for running a little business in a lovely old arcade. It is really a great place to have a small business, set right in the middle of a middle sized town. Lots of lovely people have popped in to say hello and find out what we are doing here, intrigued.
We sell fabrics, some vintage remnants and some materials on the roll, especially plain colours of various types. Dressmaking and tailoring is taking off well, plenty of work to keep me out of mischief. Tuition and workshops are also on the rise. It seems that all my contacts in the trade are doing well, more people are buying sewing machines, and learning how to use them to make do and mend, and also to make things from scratch. The creative bug has arrived again, after lying dormant for many years. ![]() The famous 'Pimp' coat for a lovely man who wanted to make a bit of a splash at a special occasion. He covered the hat himself with the fur fabric, and it really finishes the outfit off nicely, along with the suited look and the shades! You wouldn't like to meet up with HIM on a dark night, would you? Great buzz around here, I keep getting inspired in all kinds of directions, there is so much to do. Not enough days in the week or hours in the day. I would like to campaign for a 3 day weekend. More colour and splash to appear in the shop this week, those of you who pass by often will notice the difference. Oh well, back to being chained to the sewing machine....... Well, the shop is more or less sorted out and I have been in there working most of this week. Got a bit more titivating to do around the window. It is a lovely place to work, lots of nice shops in the arcade, mostly small businesses run by enthusiastic individuals or couples. It has a great atmosphere in there, friendly and welcoming. Pop in and see me when you're in the area. My sign has been put up over the shop, adds something special, and it is exactly right for the kind of stuff I offer. I am also very excited about the fact that I make accessories to sell directly, both in the shop and online. Website is still a work in progress, getting there (like British Rail.....!) The shop in The Royal Arcade is beginning to take shape, plastering work has been done beautifully (if a bit messy on the floor) but all cleaned up now. Went over yesterday to measure up for a few things, and figured out what I could fit where. Its so exciting, although its not the first shop I've had by any means, had them in Harrogate and York in North Yorkshire, and Goole in East Yorkshire. Should be second nature by now.
Its such a little treasure, this old Victorian Arcade, beautifully restored into shops and businesses downstairs, with a few shops up on the balcony and the rest is made into flats, which in turn keep a watchful eye on the goings on in the rest of the Arcade. Will have to get on and decorate the place towards the end of the week, need to get a move on now for the opening. Was in London a few days ago, looking round the little Camden Market shops and found a real bargain, a half sized black wire dummy, display item, PERFECT for the shop, and it helps me get the idea over to the signwriter, the image needs to be completed asap. which is then my new logo. Then onwards and upwards with all the other bits and bobs I need to do, when I have the logo I can steam ahead. Website coming along great, almost done. I sometimes need to pinch myself, I am so lucky finding this place... |
